Quilian Riano is an architectural and urban designer, researcher, writer, and educator born in Bogota, Colombia and currently working out of Brooklyn, New York. He is the founder of DSGN AGNC, a collaborative design/research studio exploring political engagement through architecture, urbanism and art. SANDBOXING is a game designed specifically for NCFR in which players are asked to engage with two key resources: land (sand) and water. This architectural installation changes as players navigate the space defined by its structural dew-catcher canopy--a passive water collection system used in arid climates to extract moisture from the atmosphere. Without any outcome prescribed, players are left to make the choices of sharing collectively or further restricting access to ever diminishing resources. The artist’s invitation? Let's negotiate sand and water.
