Rodrigo Valenzuela is an Chilean artist born in Santiago in 1982, who lives and works in Los Angeles. His photographs, videos and installations respond to the recent transformation of cities that have become capitals of global wealth and philanthropy. Valenzuela's work is rooted in the contradictory traditions of documentary and fiction, often involving narratives around immigration and the working class. “My story,” Valenzuela explains, “is essentially one of coming from a blue collar family, a family of workers. As a worker myself, I want to make a larger statement about everyday life." Valenzuela’s work asks: who are the workers that labor in the shadows? Who are those that build and maintain these new cities
