DSGN AGNC, Principal and Founder and Part-Time Assistant Professor, Parsons The New School of Design

Quilian Riano is the founder and principal of DSGN AGNC, a collaborative design/research studio exploring political engagement through architecture, urbanism and art. In practice and academia, Quilian works with stakeholders and trans-disciplinary teams to create comprehensive research into policies that affect urban spaces that in turn can be used to propose a variety of spatial designs, targeted policies and actions that seek to increase agency at various scales — from pamphlets to strategic master plans to architectures to landscapes. This process has been used to produce public plaza, garden and park projects with groups such as the Queens Museum of Art, the Van Alen Institute, the Design Trust for Public Space, Phoenix’s Cultivate South Phoenix. These public space projects are often developed working closely with immigrant and other underserved communities. Quilian teaches architectural and urban design studios at Parsons The New School of Design in the School of Design Strategies and other universities.
